Looking at paintings

Looking at paintings is a short movie that illustrates the project we are conducting at the Unterlinden museum in Colmar, France, where we research the way people look at paintings in real environments. By using eye tracking technology, field observation, interviews, and surveys with voluntary real museum visitors, we investigate the effects of bottom-up visual and top-down attention process on the aesthetic experience of paintings of Grünewald’s Isenheim altarpiece.
